Greece and Montenegro kick off the Aegean Acropolis Tournament
Greece won their first friendly against Poland on June 21 but it’s not all good for Hellenic Basketball: Kostas Sloukas won’t be with the national team this summer to nurse an injury, although his comments after winning the GBL spark some rumors about the reasons he may have opted out of his commitment.
Still, the show must go on, and Hellas fans will be wondering whether superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo will dress up against Montenegro for an all-NBA matchup with Chicago Bull Nikola Vucevic.
The Greek Freak has skipped the game against Poland, won 78-73 by Greece behind 12 points from Toliopoulos and Papagiannis, but he could be good to go as soon as Tuesday.
The last time these two teams met is back in the second round of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, where Nikola Vucevic came clutch for the Crna Gora, scoring 19 and earning bragging rights for the Montenegrins, who still were knocked out of contention.
