Germany vs Bulgaria FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers Preview & How to watch

- → Tipoff: February 23, 2025, 16:30 CET
- → Venue: Brose Arena, Bamberg, Germany
Germany heads into their final EuroBasket 2025 qualifier knowing that their place in the tournament is all but secured. Sitting at 3-2 in Group D with a +58 point differential, Alex Mumbrú’s team will qualify outright with a win over Bulgaria, but even a loss by up to 68 points would be enough to book their ticket. Meanwhile, Bulgaria enters the game in a must-win scenario, needing both a victory over Germany and a Montenegro win against Sweden to advance. If both Bulgaria and Sweden win, creating a four-way tie at 3-3, the team with the worst point differential would miss out.
The absence of Sasha Vezenkov and Codi Miller-McIntyre is a major setback for Bulgaria. Both players were not released by their clubs—Olympiacos and Crvena Zvezda, respectively—leaving head coach Rosen Barchovski without two of his most impactful contributors. Vezenkov was the hero in Bulgaria’s 81-77 overtime win against Sweden, putting up 40 points and 18 rebounds in one of the most dominant performances of the qualifiers. Without him, Bulgaria will need Dee Bost and Iliyan Pishtikov, who were called in as replacements, to step up in the backcourt.
Germany, despite their strong position, will be wary after their 67-62 loss to Bulgaria in Botevgrad earlier in the qualifiers. In that game, Germany built a 15-point lead early, only to see Bulgaria rally back with defensive pressure and timely scoring in the second half. The rematch in Bamberg presents an opportunity for Germany to take care of business on home soil, avoiding any unnecessary complications in the qualification race.
A German victory would also secure Montenegro’s place in EuroBasket 2025, while eliminating Bulgaria and potentially Sweden. On the other hand, a Bulgarian upset would keep their hopes alive, depending on results elsewhere.
