Spain looking to take care of business after miracle in Bratislava
In a game that wasn't suitable for people suffering from heart conditions, La Familia got their first win after being seemingly doomed to go 0-3 in the group phase after Slovakia led 66-61 with 8 seconds to go in the first overtime.
Santi Yusta scored a three to cut the hosts' lead to a 2-point game, before Simon Krajcovic went 1/2 from the charity stripe to make it a three-point lead with 5 seconds on the clock.
Hard, but possible for Spain. Fran Guerra's three, however, falls on the rim and out, meaning the clock counts 0.4 seconds to go and the ball is in Slovakia's hands. Hard, and basically impossible for Spain to get a steal and put the three in the basket, right?
Well, just don't tell Santi Yusta. The Casademont Zaragoza forward intercepts the in-bound pass and releases within the 0.4 seconds, converting an absurd three that will remain in FIBA EuroBasket Qualifiers history, but most importantly forcing a second overtime.
Spain took care of proceedings in the last 5' and secured an incredible win to take them to 1-2 in Group C.
They now host a tough Slovakia team - but will the visitors have the mental energy to go all-out after coming so close in Bratislava, or will Spain get the second W to make the table look closer to what everyone expected after the draw?
