Rendezvous at the top of Group A in Goyang as Korea host Australia
It was business as usual for Australia, as the Boomers dismantled Thailand as expected, and taking their win count to three with the first game of this international road trip taking Jacob Chance's team through Bangkok and Goyang. Chris Goulding shipped an unreal 27 points in under 20 minutes of action, while young NBA prospect Rocco Zikarsky got 11 on his senior debut with Australia.
A sold-out Goyang Gymnasium watched nervously as Korea struggled against Indonesia, who even led for 18 minutes, on the way to their second wind of this qualifiers. An awful 24% from three-point range (on a mad 37 attempts from downtown) meant Indonesia stuck too close for comfort in South Korea.
However, Woosuk Lee's and-one with 5 minutes to go set them up 7 points, giving the cheering home fans a break after a tough evening and getting the expected W for Korea, who now have a chance to make first place their own if they beat Australia by 15 or more at the Goyang Gymnasium (hoping that the rim will be friendlier with the home team).
Easier said than done, but we've seen history been made already this window - will Choo Il-seung's team give us yet another upset?
