It's win or go home for Montenegro against Siakam-less Cameroon
After debuting against Brazil, Montenegro will play their 2nd game at the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in Riga against African powerhouse Cameroon.
Cameroon were hoping to count on Pascal Siakam of the Indiana Pacers and Ulrich Chomche, the first NBA Academy Graduate Africa to be drafted in the NBA, but will have to make do without the duo.
Montenegro will once again rely on Nikola Vucevic and Kendrick Perry to deliver in this important game for their hopes of progressing to the Semi-Finals.
Montenegro - Cameroon Preview
Montenegro should be the far superior team on paper, with a superstar like Nikola Vucevic and BCL Finals MVP Kendrick Perry in their ranks.
Cameroon have players from all over Europe, with their highest performer Jeremiah Hill playing in Russia. The 28-years-old shooting guard averaged 13 points per game for Runa Moscow and will likely be the biggest offensive contributor for the Indomitable Lions.
Samir Gbektom, the player that gave Cameroon the victory to qualify for the OQTs, will join him in the backcourt: the point guard has established himself in France’s 2nd tier, where he averaged 10 points per game with Antibes.
Montenegro’s arsenal, however, should be more than enough to deal with exciting Cameroon, a movement to watch in the landscape of African basketball.
Montenegro need to forget their Day 1 loss to Brazil, after the South American side overcame a a double-digit deficit to clinch the win.
