After missing out on the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Sacramento King and three-times all star Domantas Sabonis will play in the tournament, in a strong frontcourt with Donatas Motejunas.
Mexico, on the other hand, will field a team of mostly veterans, a last chance for this generation of players to fight for an unlikely Olympics participation.
It doesn’t help that their standout player Paco Cruz – who plays for Mersin MSK in the Turkish league – will have to sit the tournament out due to a leg injury.
In his absence, more local players such as Gabriel Giron should pick up his slack. However, it looks like Lithuania could be a tough obstacle to overcome for Mexico, as the difference in quality is stark.
