Mangilao ready to host Japan as Guam need to recover from China humiliation
There were some nervy moments as Japan played Mongolia, with the blue hosts even leading for almost a whole minute in front of a sold-out Arena Tochigi. However, Alex Kirk's sheer size, and a frankly insane 7/8 from deep for Yudai Nishida ensured it was Japan to come away with the emphatic win.
Guam had the luxury of leading for 21 seconds in Hefei, before China blew the visitors out with a titanic 48-point gap.
Only Takumi Fukuda and Jericho Cruz secured double-figures, and this doesn't bode well as EJ Calvo's team hosts perfect Japan. Will Guam have enough in the tank to stop Japan's perimeter offense and to deal with Alex Kirk's size?
We'll find out - but all odds are with the Akatsuki, ready to take their win count to four and pack their bags for Saudi Arabia 2025.
