JDA Dijon hold off Promitheas comeback behind David Holston's 25 points
In a fascinating match-up for Group B leadership in the Basketball Champions League, JDA Dijon, led by the stellar performance of David Holston, secured a hard-fought victory over Promitheas Patras with an 88-80 win on Tuesday at the Palais des Sport Jean-Michel Geoffroy.
Holston was in exceptional form, scoring 25 points on an efficient 8/10 shooting, including 5/7 from beyond the arc. His all-around offensive skill was particularly evident in the third quarter, in which he racked up 14 points, propelling Dijon into a dominant position. This performance marked Holston's third-best total in his 67 appearances in the BCL and his highest since January 2019, when he scored 31 points against Lietkabelis.
Dijon's control was evident as they led for a substantial 36 minutes and 26 seconds of the game, maintaining a lead of over ten points for significant portions of the second half. Holston, now just two assists shy of joining former Final Four MVP Marcelo Huertas as the second player to reach the 400-assist milestone, also dished out four assists during the game.
Holston was supported by Jacques Alingue’s 12 points – his personal best for the 2023-24 season. Newcomer Ahmad Caver made a notable Champions League debut with 14 points, while Gregor Hrovat matched Alingue’s 12 points.
Despite the absence of Zimbabwean big man Vitalis Chikoko, sidelined for over two weeks due to a hamstring injury, Dijon displayed resilience, improving their record to a perfect 3-0, remaining the only unbeaten team in group B.
Promitheas, on the other hand, suffered a setback. Despite a team-high 22 points from Anthony Cowan Jr. and Chris Coffey’s 11-point effort, the Greeks fell to 2-1 in the group. Promitheas, currently holding a 4-2 record in the GBL, looks ahead to hosting their Patras rival, Apollon Carna, on Sunday.
Promitheas will look to get back to the top of Group B on December 12, when they host Dijon at the Dimitris Tofalos Arena.
