The groups are set and we’re finally getting closer to North America’s all-star basketball event. The 19th edition of the FIBA AmeriCup will be painted blue, green and yellow as it’s held in Brazil for the first time since 1984. 

The FIBA AmeriCup 2022 takes place from September 2-11 in Brasilia and Recife. Group matchups take place across both cities, with Recife playing host to latter stage knockout action.

Is FIBA AmeriCup every four years?

Originally known as the FIBA Americas Championship, the tournament was held every four years from 1980. Then, from 1993, the championship was every two years. The FIBA AmeriCup went back to competing every four years in 2017. 

What does FIBA stand for?

FIBA is the International Basketball Federation. However, the acronym FIBA comes from the French phrase Federation Internationale de Basketball Amateur.

When does the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup start?
